Hello, not an illusion it really works, from an oval, twist it, it becomes a heart, twist lid to reveal the secret compartment, containing your picture of loved one. Picture will have to be split & installed by owner. Pendant is made from 4 pieces of aluminum all held together to make this very intricate locket. I can also engrave this on the inside for you with what ever you would like it to say for an extra 50.00 If you buy one of these and want engraving, please specify what you want engraved on the locket I can also color the butterfly for 20.00, if you want this please specfy what color you would like Locket does come with Butterfly engraved and chain shown in hand Thanks for looking
