RARE LONDON EDENBURGH ADVERTISING KNIFE SIGN RARE LONDON EDENBURGH ADVERTISING KNIFE SIGN, c. 1900 35” wide, 38 ½� tall without sign, 44 ½� with the sign, 4” deep or thick. This fabulous advertising piece is made of maroon wood, probably Cherry or mahogany, in beautiful condition, with a few light scratches and dings, which are not very noticeable. The front is glassed. The inside is covered with nice green felt. Inside are 20 “I.WILSON” pieces including hand ground butcher, skinning and hunting knives, with two sharpening steels. The knives are all stamped “I. WILSON, HAND GROUND, SYSCAMORE ST., SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND.” The advertizing on the top piece which fastens with wood pins to the board in gold paint says “WILLIAM DOUGLAS & SONS, LIMITED, LONDON & EDINBURGH” which we assume was a retail store that sold knives. The back of the board has metal hangers for wall mounting. The piece also comes with a beautiful ornate metal display stand, which was especially made for this board.
