Longines 10 carat gold filled gentlemans' Art Deco watch dating to 1948. This attractive vintage timepiece is in excellent overall condition. The case and dial look great and the freshly oiled and adjusted movement is running strongly and keeping time. A new strap has just been fitted and the crystal has recently been replaced so this watch is ready for immediate use. Please scroll right down to see more photographs and details If you have any questions do please contact me; you can email me at Dial: satin silver finish in great condition with hardly a mark on it, signed "Longines" with gold coloured Arabic numerals and dots marking the hours. A subsidiary seconds dial is located just above 6 o'clock. The gold hands are in very good shape and the crystal is clean and clear. Case: 10 carat gold filled, in very good condition indeed, measuring approximately 38 mm from lug to lug and 24 mm across, excluding the crown. Looking inside the cover, it is signed Longines and also hallmarked as 10 carat gold filled. The case shows no obvious signs of wear and looks very nice indeed. Movement: cal. 10L manual movement with 17 jewels set in solid gold casings. Just professionally oiled and adjusted, it runs well and keeps time. The movement number 7559222, dates the watch to 1948. Strap: fitted with a brown leather crocodile grain strap which when attached to the watch measures approximately 200 mm from buckle tip to last hole. Longines History Longines is one of the few 19th century companies still producing watches today. The founders started up in 1833 and the Longines trademark was first used in 1866. Longines was the first watchmaker to have been classified at one or other of the four government observatories and the company won many awards for the accuracy of their watches. By 1950, Longines watches had won ten Grand Prizes and twenty eight Gold Medal Awards at World's Fair and International Expositions, each won in competition with the word's leading watchmakers. Longines timepieces were used to time the majority of world's records in major sporting events. Practically all of the great pioneer flights were navigated with Longines watches, including the famous Lindbergh flight in 1927. The Lindbergh aviation watch produced in 1933 was based on Lindbergh's own design. Today Longines watches are still highly sought after as elegant, reliable and accurate high end timepieces.
