For your consideration is this very cool VINTAGE Handcarved Alligator, made from a Solid Piece of wood. The Gator and Stump are one Piece! I saw this at a antique sale and was blown away by how creative the artist was in making this piece of folk art. I asked the auctioneer if he could tell me any history pertaining to the piece but he didn't have any knowledge as to who carved it or where it may have come from. Some people thought mabe it was some sort of souvineer brought back from Florida years ago. I don't know but it's still a great looking piece. It is bored out at the top and was probably meant to be a vase of some sort. The piece is in very good condition overall with one chip at the base of the stump and what looks like a smudge of yellow paint under the tail. The chip measures approx. 1/2 x 3/4 inches square. The piece weighs approx. 4lb. 6oz. and measures approx. 15 1/2 inches tall. The Gator is approx. 18 inches long from tip of nose to tip of tail. The tail curves around and up the stump.
