DESCRIPTION : This is a STUNNING sterling silver bracelet that was handwrought in Mexico, in the late 1930's to early 1940's, by silversmith maestros, LOS BALLESTEROS. Jalil Majul Ballesteros established Talleres de Los Ballesteros in his family's home town of Iguala in 1937. They moved to Taxco around 1941 and became one of the largest and most successful Taxco silver tallers. This bracelet is masterfully crafted in a very classical Taxco motif with a great art deco flair. It is a cuff design and consists of six open round links ~ the centers have magnificent sapphire blue art glass cabochons that are bezel set in silver and accented with swirling, hand applied silver wirework ~ the art glass cabochons are set with open backs to allow light to penetrate the stones and really make them SPARKLE! The round links are connected on the backs with flat oval silver links and accented with silver demi sps. This is a fabulous, handwrought art-to-wear piece ~ it is extremely well made and would be an asset to any vintage Taxco silver collection ~ a signed Los Ballestros piece that is collector quality ~ extremely well made! SIZE: Inside circumference is 5-7/8" plus a 3/4" opening in the back (this piece is a wee bit adjustable due to design), width is 1", and weight is 32 grams. CONDITION : Excellent vintage condition ~ no chips/cracks/breaks in blue art glass cabochons ~ only a few pinpoint impressions on the silver demi sps but nothing really noticeable/please refer to photos ~ no damage noted~ just about PERFECT! HALLMARKS : "-------- -- LOS BALLESTEROS, -----, ---, B (stylized Ballestero hallmark), HECHO EN MEXICO, 925" the TALLERES DE and TAXCO GRO are worn and no longer legible. LOS BALLESTEROS and this identical hallmark (photoL-51.B.a) are shown on pages 97 and 98 of Bille Hougart's highly respected source book, The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks (2006 edition). According to Mr. Hougart, Los Ballasteros used this particular hallmark from 1937 to 1942. PL EASE NOTE: Mexican vintage si lver jewelry is hand wrought, and tfore, not perfectly symmetrical ~ each piece will have variances that indicate that the piece is hand made ~ this does not constitute damage. Please look at all of the photos provided as they are a part of the description.
