WHAT IS IT? I am selling a VINTAGE (MADE BETWEEN 1942 and 1948) STERLING SILVER spiral motif necklace by one of Mexicoâe(tm)s finest silversmith, LOS CASTILLO (not Los Costillos). It wears close to the neck, so it might be considered a LINK CHOKER. The round links with concentric circles are hollow. (They have a point in the middle, so the designer could have had a more risque motif in mind.) The clasp is a simple hook and loop. This necklace set was featured in a 1944 magazine ad for the La Tausca store on Fifth Avenue in New York (pictured). (I found it on a great website for vintage jewelry shopping and research . CHECK IT OUT.) ITS AUTHENTICITY IS 100% GUARANTEED.It is marked on the back of one of the links âe" "LOS CASTILLO, TAXCO, STERLING, MADE IN MEXICO, 652." According to some online research, this mark combination was only used by the company from 1942 to 1948.HOW BIG IS IT? Its total length is 16 inches. The links are 1-1/4 inches in diameter and approximately 3/8 of an inch thick (not counting the point). It weighs a little less than 4-1/2 TROY OUNCES, so itâe(tm)s right around 130 GRAMS (the opening bid is the approximate value of its scrap silver content).WHAT CONDITION IS IT IN? (PLEASE SEE PHOTOS) I donâe(tm)t think this was worn very much at all. The surface has a few light, faint scratches and tiny nicks from handling
