Lost Marx Superman figure In the late 50's during the production of TV's Adventures of Superman, Marx toys developed a 60 mm scale Superman play set. For reasons lost in time, the licensing fell through and the project was reworked and issued as Marx's Skyscraper play set, minus Superman and any Daily Planet trappings. When Marx closed it's doors in the late 70's prototype test shots of the Superman figure were found and sold at auction. These test shots suffered heavy mold damage; They appear to have sagged into themselves while curing and the results are a very stocky figure, with a warped head, no neck and deep furrows through the mid section and thighs. Despite this, these figures are highly prized as an almost holy grail mixing of vintage Marx plastics style and detail in a classic 1950's Superman. We believe one unwarped figure is known to exist. Recently, interested parties got together with one of the damaged originals and fixed these problems in one of the rare castings, restoring the body to it's proper proportions, fixing the head, lengthening the neck and meticulously cleaning up the cuts that score the torso and thighs.
