You are bidding on a lot of eleven (11) issues of Turf and Sport Digest Magazine . I am the original owner. Of course 1973 was a very special year in horse racing with Secretariat's Triple Crown win. This collection from that year provides an exceptional look back at what truly was a golden year in horse racing history. This collection is the entire year's issues from 1973, but unfortunately is missing the November issue. Specific issues included in this lot with notes on each are: January, 1973 (Vol. 50, No.1): Tom Ainslie on Racing's Now Generation. There is a color photo of Secretariat as having been named 1972's best 2 year old colt or gelding. The cover (as well of a few of the inside pages) of this issue is chewed up a little at the top and has a big crease down the right side as well as a 1" tear. This issue contains the "Computerized Master List of Digest Horse Ratings," which is pull-out guide but has never been pulled out and is not written on. It is pretty badly yellowed but that is because the pullout is printed on a newsprint type paper. The rest of the issue is somewhat yellowed and in fair condition. February, 1973 (Vol. 50 No. 2): Features Mary Bacon on the cover. Also has the pull-out horse digest ratings. This issue is in good condition. There is a large crease on the back cover. March, 1973 (Vol. 50, No. 3): Derby Steam Team at Gulfstream; New York Racing: An Anatomy of Excellence; Exclusive Jockey Ratings. This issue in very good condition and has some amazing photos. April, 1973 (Vol. 50, No. 4): The Grass is Always Bluer at Keeneland. This issue only slightly yellowed and in excellent condition. May, 1973 (Vol. 50, No.5): Derby Day Drama. Of course this was published before the Derby was run so it does not have pictures of Secretariat winning. Features an article on Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons and is in very good condition. June, 1973 (Vol 50, No.6): Big Beautiful Belmont issue. The cover on this issue is split and separated from the magazine and was damaged in transit as appears from the stamp on the front cover. There is some writing and underlining on 3 or 4 pages of this issue and it is somewhat yellowed. I would rate it fair to poor condition. July, 1973 (Vol. 50, No. 7): This issue focuses on handicapping articles and is only slightly yellowed. Good to very good. August, 1973 (Vol. 50, No. 8): Saucy Saratoga issue. This is the issue that features several photos of Secretariat winning the Triple Crown races. The cover and the first few pages have a few wrinkles and the Turf Quiz is filled in with red ink. Only slightly yellowed, this issue is in overall good condition. September, 1973 (Vol. 50, No. 9): Hand Made Races. This issue has some underlining and writing in one article and a coupon is clipped out on page 72. So although it is only slightly yellowed and the pages are otherwise in great chape, it would probably only be considered fair condition. October, 1973 (Vol. 50, No.10): Features the "Super Guide" and several articles on handicapping maiden races. Only a slight dog-ear on the cover and slight yellowing, this issue is in good to very good condition. December, 1973 (Vol. 50, No. 12): Shoemaker Shows 'Em; Boredom is Killing Racing. This issue is slightly yellowed, in good to very good condition. If you win this auction, take a look at the ad on page 7. It is an ad for an art print called Superhorse Secretariat. I have that print framed and might be persuaded to sell it! I will be listing several lots of Turf and Sport Digest over the next few weeks, all from 1971-1981. If you win more than one lot, I will combine shipping where feasible. These magazines have been stored in a cool, dry area. No smoking, pets, mildew or other environmental issues.
