LOT 17 VINTAGE CANADA SILVER 50 CENTS 1906-19 5.6 OZ A large lot of 17 vintage Silver 50 Cent pieces from Canada, all .925 fine Sterling Silver and dated from 1906 through 1919. This big lot of silver coins contains a total of approximately 5.59 Troy ounces of pure silver. A terrific way to stock up on silver!
This lot contains: • Description : Seventeen (17) 50 Cent pieces from Canada, all dated 1906 through 1919, from the reigns of King Edward VII (9 coins) and King George V (8 coins). There are six coins dated 1910, three dated 1918, and the eight remaining coins represent a good mix of other common dates in this range. Three coins - dated 1909, 1910, and 1911 - have dates that are well worn and somewhat difficult to read. • Condition : Most of the earlier coins are in lower grades (Fair or AG, or Good), with several later coins in slightly better condition. While most of these coins have contact marks, such as light scratches or small rim bumps, they're generally in decent condition and there are no culls. Most have attractive, original "old silver" patinas; one 1919 coin has been cleaned. • Weight : An estimated weight of 11.08 grams for each coin, based on the weights of the nine earlier, Edward VII coins that aren't stapled in 2x2s. (The weight of the later, higher-grade coins may be higher, so this is a conservative estimate; uncirculated, as-minted coins of this type weigh 11.62 grams each.) This estimate gives a total weight for the 17-coin lot of 188.3 grams or 6.05 Troy ounces. • Silver content : 6.05 Troy ounces of .925 fine (92.5%) silver coins contain approximately 5.59 ounces of pure silver (actual silver weight, or ASW). • Silver value: 5.59 Troy ounces of pure silver has a value of US $195 at $35.00/Troy oz. and $223 at $40.00/oz. (At the time this lot was listed, the silver price was approximately $43.00/oz.) Here's the latest silver price quote from : 3-day auction, closing on Tuesday, April 19, starting at $0.99 with no reserve , with FREE shipping in the USA and just US $5.00 shipping to Canada. Silver's investment potential . Silver has traditionally been the ultimate hedge against inflation. It has been used as money for literally thousands of years - according to some writings, even longer than gold. It also has far more industrial applications and emerging uses than gold and other precious metals, ranging from mainstream uses in electronics, to superconductors to carry electricity without resistance , and even fighting bacteria on surgical equipment and on bandaids . For two well-considered looks at silver's investment potential - well before its price soared recently to over $40.00 a Troy ounce - see Myra Saefong's May 14, 2010 article, Gold's 'ugly sister' gets a second look , and Adam Hamilton's April 16, 2010 article, Silver/Gold Ratio Reversion 3 . However, a buyer should understand that the price of silver can be highly volatile in the short run - its price can go down as well as up, often with great speed - and no one has a crystal ball regarding its future price performance. _gsrx_vers_335 (GS 5.5 (335))
