Two Handwritten Cookbooks, Baltimore, MD, late 19th century, one a cookbook by Cushings & Bailey, Baltimore, 1888 with leather tabs for various food sections (Soups; Fish, Oysters, &c., Meats & Poultry, etc.), the book entitled on front "COOKERY BOOK / Alice Whitridge Thomas / 1895". Book consists of various recipes of the period, written inside and added on loose pages. Recipes include "Crab Soup, Stewed Crabs, Oyster Soup, Pickled Oysters, Frying Oysters, Lobster a la Neuburg, Johnnie Cake, Whortleberry Pudding, Egg Nog, etc. Second book with hand-written recipes, mostly desserts, including Sponge Cake, Sally Lunn, Company Cake, Salem Fancy Cake, Bird's Nest Pudding, Christmas Plum Pudding, and Terrapins. Alice Whitridge book with wear, including significant damage to spine. Other book missing spine, with loose cover and inner page. Alice Whitridge Thomas book measures 9 1/2" x 7 1/2".
