For your consideration, this beautiful Lot of 8 Vintage Silver Marcasite Peacock Buttons is up for auction. 's what I know about these gorgeous buttons. After cleaning these items I still do not know if they are Sterling Silver or White Metal (considering the age of the items and that they're not marked). These buttons, when cleaned with a silver polishing cloth, reacted as though they were dirty with tarnish, so it's still a mystery. The cloth really did a beautiful job cleaning these items. The Peacock Feathers and the Wing of the Peacock definately were etched and not pressed (see close up photo) adding more to the mystery of these items. So we have Marcasite Buttons with etched Silver or White Metal although my guess would be Coin Silver but I'm not an expert! On the back of the buttons, t is a Copper Loop that looks to have been affixed to each item. Each Peacock Button is pretty much in the same Beautiful Vintage Condition and is roughly the size of a dime. This Lot of 8 Peacock Buttons would make a fantastic addition to any Collection of Fine Vintage Buttons or Marcasite Items!
