I was told these were never used, but I cannot verify new or used, working or nonworking as I've never put together a train set, sorry. The boxes are open. They are worn and dirty as they were stored in the garage. The trains, themselves, however, look very good to me. I tend to believe they're not used or at least not used very much. Included are the locomotive (says Chattanooga 638 on the train itself, but nothing on the box), Old Dutch Cleanser car, a Pulpwood car, a caboose (says Chattanooga 607 on the train itself, but the box says 327-15), and an Operating Crane Car with Boom Tender (a 2-piece set has 932:__?? as the last part is covered with tape, sorry) There is also a locomotive box that has track in it instead of another locomotive. All in all, though, I think this set is a bargain!
