These 3 lovely buttons were also purchased recently at the same auction mentioned in my previous listings. The carving is truly a marvelous work of art. It seems that some one had put some gold gilting on it at some time. This is apparent in some of the grooves. I didn't want to wash it off, and will leave that decision to the buyer. I do think that the ornate Victorian design of swirling leaves and a beautiful floral design would stand out more if the grooves did have some contrast to the rest of each button. The backs of the buttons, which I've also shown are unusual. The shank is square and has a hole on each side. The two larger buttons measure 1 1/4" in diameter and the smaller one is 7/8" in diametAs a (would-be off-and-on again) jewelry collector, someone suggested that I convert these into earrings and a small brooch, and even though I don't do that, someone out t might want to ! However, I think that a button collector might appreciate them quite a bit as they are supposed to be: lovely Victorian buttons. I am also a sewer, and love to make Victorian christening gowns; if you take a look at the last 3 pictures you will see how the buttons could be employed ( the cap with the button turned out poorly as the cap was cast in a shadow, the button matches up quite nicely).....They would also make a gorgeous addition to a wedding read more
