Antique French 17th century brown Boulle bracket clock having its original bracket. The gilt brass dial with blue Roman numerals on white enamel cartouches. The clock is surmounted by a figure of Fame. The movement with vase-shaped pillars, verge escapement and silk suspension. It strikes the hours and half hours on a bell with an outside engraved locking plate. Condition: Movement is in running order. The case is unrestored. The ormolu mounts and brass boulle work is unpolished. Nine of the enamelled cartouches are in good condition, two have small cracks and one has a small chip. Signed on the backplate `Gribelin a Paris. Nicolas Gribelin Born 1635 Died 1715 Maker of: Fine Boulle bracket clocks. (G.H.Baille. Watchmakers & clockmakers of the world). His work can be seen at Mobilier National, Dennison Collection, The V & A and the Louvre.
