Aunt Jo's Scrap-Bag By Louisa May Alcott Volume III Roberts Brothers Boston 1881 SIZE: This little book measures 4 and 3/4 inches by 6 and 1/2 inches. It contains 209 pages of text and 6 pages of publisher's illustrated ads at the back. CONDITION: Good plus. The blue cloth cover is worn on the corners and ends of the spine. The gilt titles are shiny. The binding is intact. The interior is age-tanned. There is some minor foxing that does not mar the text. An old moisture stain is present on the edges of the front free end paper. An owner's inscription from 1882 is written in period hand on a blank early page indicating that this book was a Christmas gift. CONTENT: This copy is Vol. III of a series of volumes of short stories published after "Little Women" in answer to Louisa May Alcott's growing popularity. I admire her perhaps more than any writer. She used her gift to support her entire family at a time when women did not have many career opportunities. Many of her characters are strong girls and women. This is an early edition of "Aunt Jo's Scrap Book" that features some illustrated publisher's ad at the back that are as fascinating as the 10 stories: Cupid and Chow-Chow, Huckleberry, Nellie's Hospital, Grandma's Team, Fairy Pinafores, Mamma's Plot, Kate's Choice, The Moss People, What Fanny Hears and A Marine Merry-Making.
