This auction is for aset-up formerly used to age Perique tobacco snuff. Auctionincludes one 10 gallon oak whiskey barrel, two pairs of hemispherical oak top plates (small and large), two red oak press blocks, and a small red screw jack. The barrel is empty and has been cleaned out, and is in good condition. Barrel was made by Jack Daniel's in Lynchburgh, TN, and stands 21".This equipment was the property of River Road Tobacco Co., of New Orleans, Louisiana.The pulverized Perique leaf was packed into the barrel for aging. The first generation of the "Jewel of St. James" line of Perique nasal snuff was aging as Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans.... the rest of the story is known to the world. Tfore the product never was introduced to the marketplace. Included in this auction are two glass jars of "Jewel of St. James" pure Perique pipe tobacco -- "the caviar of tobaccos"!This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Louisiana history.Enjoy bidding!
