Up for auction is a wonderful and expertly made "Seven Sisters" pattern quilt from the 1920s......I think even a tad earlier. The measurements are a substantial 71 inches by 84 inches, a nice size. This quilt was hand pieced and hand quilted with about 11 to 12 tiny stitches per inch. The design blocks measure approximately 10 inches by 10 inches with each individual star being only 3 inches wide.......lots of feedack and some juvenile prints were used. Each block is surrounded by a 1.75 inch pretty teal color "Y" shape design. All of these shapes have been individually pieced, with the two long sides coming to points while the two shorter sides have straight pieced teal pieces. I have shown two brown spots on the front and there are a couple of freckle size age spots.....nothing else popped out at me. There are about 20 individual stars that have some sort of fabric popping........some only a segment of the 6 segment star, some more. Since these are all individually pieced, these segments can be easily replaced with some vintage feedsack fabric. The narrow separate binding is in wonderful shape.........it is both hand stitched to the front and to the back. The backing is a solid creamy color and the same fabric was used for the binding. Unless I overlooked something or it was not obvious to me, I saw no damage on the backing. This thin, light weight summer quilt has been laundered and will come to you from a smoke free home....ready for immediate use.
