Offered is a bright and colorful light weight summer quilt from the 1930s. This quilt measures approximately 79 inches by 67 inches. It is hand pieced and hand stitched with approximately 8 stitches per inch. It looks like more than one person did some quilting as some is not as even as the 8 stitches per inch. The pattern is "Colonial Bouquet", but it is very similar to "Grandmother's Flower Garden", and we usually call it a GFG variation. In Barbara Brackman's "Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns", she referenced the "Colonial Bouquet" pattern to first appear during the period of 1825 to 1850. Lots of feedsack fabrics have been used in the plates and the path is also lavender. The plates themselves measure about 6 inches each, give or take. I saw no fabric issues, holes or tears. All four sides of this quilt are deeply scalloped and in great shape. The separate narrow binding has been both hand stitched to the front and to the back. The binding is also in wonderful condition and I did not notice any issues. There are some age spots on the front but they are not obtrusive.....seem to blend in. I saw one brown spot and I have taken a photo of that....I think, unless, I overlooked something, that was the most obvious spot. The backing is also a lavender color but has some fading and age spots. I saw no holes or tears. I have not laudered this quilt, and I feel it would brighten up nicely with a gentle soak. There are no unpleasant odors and it will come to you from a smoke free home. Shipping will be by USPS and payment is to be received within 5 days from end of auction. I will happily combine shipping costs for multiple purchases. There is never a handling fee, and I will also refund any excess shipping costs.
