Antique Velvet Purse Needlework/Sewing Set English * Circa 1890s This charming set of bone needlework tools comes in a velvet purse shaped case with ornate gilded ormolu decoration. Both sides open and inside are silk loops holding a bone stiletto, needle case, crochet hook and bodkin as well as steel scissors . The other side is mounted with a beveled oval mirror (original & intact). In the body of the purse are an old packet of needles, a Victorian large penny (dated 1890), a nickel silver thimble and a bone thread winder wrapped with silk threads. The fancy little scissors measure 3 1/2" long, have intact points and cut pretty well (snip through silk threads easily). With the exception of a chipped point on the winder, a ll of the tools are in great condition with no chips, cracks or other damage. The thimble has a floral and waffle knurling pattern and the maker's mark for the Charles Iles company. It's in excellent condition with no damage and very little wear and is about an American size 8. The purse is lined in silk satin that has no tears or damage. The velvet has some wear on the handle but the rest of it is in nice, fluffy condition. The clasp works perfectly.
