Here's a nice piece for those collecting the last Gold Certificate series ever issued to the public. A $50 Gold Certificate, series 1928. Signatures of Wood/Mellon. Serial number A01329596A. Nice "starter" and an interesting piece of history -- the 1928 Series was the last series to be released to the public (the 1934 series was for interbank purposes only). After FDR's gold recall in 1933, they were withdrawn from circulation. Note has not been professionally graded; the following opinions on grade/condition are only my personal observations as a collector (I am not a dealer) -- NO warranty is implied; please look closely at photos to judge for yourself. I would estimate this note falls in the 20 range ("Very Fine"). Note is still very crisp and has seen only moderate circulation; very moderate soiling and folding only. Corners slightly rounded; edges still clean & sharp. Defects are in the form of what appear to be rust stains from a paper clip -- 3 brownish stains on obverse, which have bled thru to reverse (2 are on the right-hand serial number, with slight brown verticle lines, indicating an old paper clip; another smaller one on right edge of portrait). Brown spot to the farthest right does show a pinhole at the center of it; two other tiny pinholes in upper right quadrant (one on circular border of the "50"; the other directly read more
