This rare type of implement comes from a gravel pit in Hampshire and is of the same type as found at a low level at Swanscombe on the Thames. This may represent an entirely different culture from the Acheulian or may have been simply another method of production, which involves just a few detachment from the end or side of a river cobble. These pebble tools are rare since, like the chopper cores, they were largely ignored by early collectors. This item would have worked as a scraper or a chopper with a good handhold provided by the cortex. T is a more recent chip to the leading edge and hence the pricing. Age: c350,000BP. Length: 9cm. A nice example of this type of Lower Paleolithic tool with full provenance. Method of payment: Paypal or UK cheque. Shipping cost will depend on location and weight.
