LUCKY 18K BICOLOR 'HORSE SHOE' TIEPIN-1880.
LUCKY 18K BICOLOR 'HORSE SHOE' TIEPIN-1880. This is a beautiful late 19th century tiepin (circa 1880). Although it doesn't carry any legible control marks we believe it is Belgian. The tiepin has entirely been made of 18K bicolor gold (yellow and red), and features a horseshoe on top adorned by seven strass stones, 1 blue 2 red and 4 white stones. There is no consensus among historians as to when and by who horseshoes were first invented. What seems most plausible is that shoeing was invented by numerous armorers in different places at about the same time, and then kept as a military secret for a very short time - until the practice was apparently widespread. Fact is that to date they are considered to bring good luck. The tiepin measures 6.50 cm (2.56 inch) and weighs 1.70 gram (1.09 dwt). It is in excellent condition. Please when referring to this piece, mention the following number: 97169-0365, or click here. Recommended retail price for this piece would be approx. $ 179.
