'RHEIN' was the series. Decor: "Rhein" Blue painting vine 2 pictures " Godesburg" & "Alter Zoll" marked: Volutenmonogramm mit LW, darüber Krone und Rhein (gestempelt) embossing No:1266 small chips Kurfürstliche Fayencerie Poppelsdorf (Poppelsdorf Faience Fabrique) (1755 until 1829) The history of the Wessel company starts as the owner of the 'Poppelsdorf Faience Fabrique' named Johann Mathias Rosenkranz had to confess before a notary in Bonn, stating he had accepted the amount of 8490 Reichsthaler enabling him to continue his business. The 'generous' businessman who had helped out was no other than the Bonn resident Ludwig Wessel . The problems persisted and Rosenkranz was forced to sign a three year leasing contract with Ludwig Wessel and his business partner Johann Wilhelm Bruckmann from Deutz near Cologne. During the three years of the contract, Rosenkranz tried to sell the factory a few times but to no avail. Rosenkranz died on July 9th 1828 at the age of 62.
