One of two which I'm listing separately. Both identical in size and construction. No excise mark whatsoever so clearly not made to hold ale. And of course no handle. Although it does hold a pint. Engraved 'Nag's Head Lynington' on the base. This pub was located in the High Street and later changed its name to The Londesborough. Makers mark inside on the base. Not very clear but you can see on this one John War... above shaking hands. So most likely Ward or Warren. The mark is oval and there is another word I can't make out around the bottom of the oval. Imposible to photograph I'm afraid. This one also has a conical insert which fits perfectly. I'm guessing they would have held pipes or maybe spills to light a pipe, or maybe ashes from a pipe. I'd love to know if anyone knows for sure. Interesting piece SOLD WITH NO RESERVE. Pipes not included. UK BUYERS: CHEQUES GLADLY ACCEPTEDINTERNATIONAL SALES.
