Lyons NY Ovoid Jar Attributed to Nathan Clark Ready for you to "buy it now" is a beautiful 1 Gallon Ovoid Jar marked LYONS . The severe ovoid shape with the narrow base and large middle indicates a date around 1840. This would be in the period when Nathan Clark who began pottery making in Lyons was potting t--1822 to 1852. The early ovoid form is accentuated by the ears being high and snug against the rim. It is decorated with a cobalt capacity mark and underscoring. I bought it without a lid, but fitted it with this lid which completes the look quite well. Stands 9.5" tall. Excellent Condition. A minor 3/16" stone ping and 3/4" drying line around the inner rim, and a 1/4" stone ping on the bottom right side-- all in the making. A couple of minor 1/16" flakes on the rim and three flakes at the base of 1/8" to 1/4". A 1" chip on the back bottom that is partially glazed over. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or repairs. Very clean glaze too. A Early Nathan Clark Ovoid Jar from Lyons in Excellent Condition. Modest reserve too! This beauty ships in a doublebox with full insurance for just $12.50. Please see our other auctions and ebay store items. Thank you for shopping Doc's Crocks! Duane Watson, Proprietor.
