RARE Military silver Machine Gun Corps badge hallmarked for 1916 ( r mark). Good condition. Silver backing with silver mount to front of badge. Measures approx 3cms diameter and weighs 5 grams. The Machine Gun Corps was a corps of the British Army formed in October 1915 in response to the need for more effective use of machine guns on the western front in World War I. They earned their nickname of The Suicide Club as of the 170,500 men serving, 62,049 became casualties 12,498 were killed during the war. The Machine Gun Corps were officially disbanded in 1922.
