's a great item for holiday entertaining--a large (approx. 11 x 15 inches) fluted edge platter made by the famous majolica design firm, MacKenzie-Childs. If you know MacKenzie-Childs you know they are famous for their whimsical approach to pottery, and this platter showcases their talents. It is made of terra cotta colored clay with a thick overglaze which features pink tulips in the center, surrounded by various bands of patterns, including a pastel blue border with yellow diamonds. This is, I'm told, the Aalsmeer pattern, which makes sense since the pattern features Dutch tulips. As is true with all MacKenzie-Childs items, t are some imperfections in the glaze. One sort of "hole" is on the reverse of the plate near an edge, and t are two slots on the back to allow a wire to be inserted for hanging. T is one imperfection which keeps me from saying that this platter is like new in every way. T is a chip in the glaze ONLY on the edge on the front of the platter. It is about as big as the tip of your little finger. It is NOT a chip in the majolica but only in the thick glaze. I really think this can be pretty easily repaired or covered up by some gesso and some gloss acrylic paint, because t is nothing on the surface of the platter which would give it away once the glaze was filled in. Still, it does keep the platter from being in top notch shape so I am starting this at 99 cents withno reserve. By the way, I have pictured the platter, the chip, and the hole in the glaze in the back. I have also pictured the MacKenzie-Childs signature which is imprinted in the terra cotta clay on the back of the platter. Thanks for looking and happy bidding on this gorgeous item! The fine print: Winning buyer should contact me within 3 days to confirm purchase and to pay within 10 days unless other arrangements are made. I accept PayPal (preferred), cash, checks and money orders (I reserve the right to delay shipping for checks to clear.) Shipping will be calculated according to your zip code--see the calculator below. Insurance is not included but loss in the mail is the buyer's risk, so I highly recommend it. I pack well and have rarely had a problem but with a breakable item, especially, it is well to be safe. No international bidders without confirming with me first that I can ship to your address economically. Usually it is MUCH more expensive and often no insurance for the package is available. I will cancel bids from international purchasers who do not write to me and confirm in advance that they are willing to accept these terms. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!!!
