A rare find at an estate auction: a handsome and heavy plate by Mackenzie Childs, bottom stamped 1983, now discontinued and hard to find. The plate is 12" x 12" with hand painted green and terra cotta stripes, with floral checkerboard pattern in the center, and with gilded accent. The underside is also decorated in charming florals and bright yellow dots. This dish is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs, and no sign of use. One section of gold accent trim (see photo detail #3) shows very small loss to the gilt. Otherwise perfect. See all photos. This from the internet: Owners Victoria and Richard MacKenzie Childs began MacKenzie-Childs, Ltd. in 1983 to market a line of furnishings, housewares, and accessories. Artists since childhood, the two went on to receive Master of Fine Arts degrees and move to Devon, England, where they worked in a pottery, taught art, and designed and made clothing for stage and street wear. Their experience with a range of media allowed them to design the unique pieces they manufacture today. The product line includes dinnerware, glassware, linens, floor coverings, tiles, furniture, lamps, and decorative accessories. MacKenzie-Childs is based in New York, New York.
