This listing is for a Custom SOUTHWESTERN NATIVE AMERICAN Madame Alexander Doll. Several years ago, I found this Native American outfit online. It fits Madame Alexander dollsperfectly but is not tagged, so it’s maker and intended tribal representation is unknown. The styling looks most like a blend of southwestern Native American clothing styles, particularly Apache and Navajo from the 1800s. For a list of Southwestern tribes, see below. This one-of-a-kind doll is in excellent used condition and comes with a doll stand and the MA box shown. CHOICE OF DOLL: Choosing which doll to pick wasn’t a straightforward task. MA has made only a few Native American dolls and their rarity meant they were too expensive to buy and re-use. Also, some of MA’s Native American dolls have such light skin they look Caucasian. This doll of color was chosen because her mid-range skin tone and long straight black hair gives her some ethnic flexibility. She’s a lovely doll, in EUC, with appealing features. OUTFIT DETAILS, EUC: Like 1800’s Apache clothing, this outfit has a calico skirt worn with a long-sleeved blouse. Apache women often wore contrasting blouses, like this one, whereas Navajo blouses usually matched the skirts.
