MAGIC Music Composed by Jerry Goldsmith. In 1978, Jerry Goldsmith produced six scores, each a classic in its own way. There was the black mass of Damien: Omen II, the utterly gargantuan adventure score for The Swarm, the macabre waltz of The Boys From Brazil, the austere discomfort of Coma, plus Capricorn One, the score which reigned as perhaps the most exhilarating action film score until 1992's Total Recall. By any standard, 1978 represents an extraordinarily productive year. While each of these scores received a soundtrack album release, there was one other score which did not. Magic was a well-made and sure-footed directorial outing by Richard Attenborough. The film starred Anthony Hopkins (QB VII, The Edge) in one of his earliest and finest film performances as neurotic ventriloquist Corky Withers. Hopkins received nominations for Best Actor from both the Golden Globe Awards and BAFTA for this role. Ann-Margret plays his long lost love Peggy Ann Snow, Burgess Meredith (Rocky, narrator on Twilight Zone: The Movie) is super-agent Ben Greene (nicknamed "Gangrene") and Ed Lauter (Breakheart Pass, Family Plot) plays Peggy's husband, Duke.
