6V6 Push Pull 7 Tube Stereo Amplifier, Ready to Use!!! Magnavox Tube Amplifier Converted for Component Use Hi, This auction is for a very special amplifier. It is a Magnavox 8802 (88-02-00) Amplifier Custom Modified and Refurbished for use as a stand alone Power Amp for your component stereo system. This is the second of these amps that I am currently listing for sale. This one has the binding posts on the top, the other has them on the back. The tubes are somewhat different as well. Other than that the amps are nearly identical and sound alike. Please see my other auction as well. It is form a very early 1960's Magnavox Stereo Console Unit. I personally buy these consoles and remove the amplifiers for refurbishment and modification to stand alone use. First I thoroughly test the amp to determine the required work necessary to restore it to top operating condition. After I complete the inspection I then thoroughly clean the amp. Next I remove unnecessary circuitry and components that were connecting it to the original console radio tuner and preamp. Then I begin the refurbishment and modification work. I replaced the original 4 coupling capacitors in the tube circuits. I upgraded them to capacitors rated for 600 volts, up from the original 400 volt components. These up-rated caps are far superior to the originals and will ensure that your new amp will perform even better for the next 50 years than it did for the last 50. These amps are truly designed to last for a lifetime, they will never wear out. Any single component or tube in them can be easily replaced should it ever be necessary. A final modification required for stand-alone use is the addition of two high quality 390-ohm resistors in a strategic location. These take the place of a control that was original located in the radio tuner of the stereo console the amp was pulled from. I use very high quality carbon composite resistors rated at twice the watt capacity required. I installed a new power switch on the amp as well a fuse holder, a 2.5 amp stereo system fuse, and a brand new polarized power cord. I do this in such a way as to leave the amp in as close to original condition as possible for historical purposes. You will notice that the amp has been outfitted with new binding posts for the speaker wire connections, I believe this is a must have modification for stand alone use (these required the only new holes that I drilled in the chassis). The chassis also has new rubber pads installed in the four corners so that it will not mar your cabinet or shelf surface. After repairs and modifications are complete I tested the amp thoroughly. To do this I first powered it up very slowly on my Variac Transformer to ensure that the new components were brought to life gently. After successfully powering up the amp and letting it reach operating temperature It's time to start making music. For testing purposes I hooked it up as follows: My IPod was used as the audio source and connected to the amp with RCA plugs. The Speakers I use are 8 ohm 3 way speakers with 10" woofers, and smaller midrange and tweeters. The are just very typical midsize component system speakers. I listened carefully for any noise, hum, distortion, etc. I play the amp for a half hour or so to ensure that it is completely stable, dependable, and sounding great. Some people may choose to paint the chassis and install custom wood frames, etc. I'll leave those modifications’ to the new owner. The pictures in this auction are of the actual amp you will be purchasing and you will notice in some of the pics the amp is turned on and the tubes are lit. The Tubes included with the amp are the original set from Magnavox.
