This Magnificent and Rare 19th Century French Louis XVI style Marble clock was found at a recent estate sale along with several other antique clocks. With the very impressive size and beauty of the clock , it was a real eye catcher when I first saw it setting on the mantle at the estate sale .(Please view the pictures below) This particular clock has several Rare features along with it's fabulous artistic design. The clock's case was created from a hand polished and carved Black Marble accented with inlays of a deep rich Burgundy Marble. The overall height of the clock and sculpture is a very impressive 29 1/2" tall with a wide base width of 14" and a depth of 9 1/2". The top of the clock's case displays a Golden Ormolu colored Metal Sculpture of Knight complete with winged helmet , sword and armor. From this sculpture and platform the case curves inward and flares out with accent inlaid and rounded moldings of the Burgundy Marble . The front has a Golden metal ornamental piece that is embossed with winged Sea Serpents on the ends. The sides of the case are vertical with unusual designed Golden metal Lion's heads that are holding wreaths in t mouths. The front of the case has the clock's face in the center with two Burgundy Marble columns on the sides. These columns have Golden Metal Floral designed end caps. The bottom of the case is supported with two gorgeous scrolling and floral designed Golden metal legs on the front and two Gold metal legs on the back. The lower front also is accented with another beautifully designed Golden Ornament. As you can see this clock is totally covered with lovely accent pieces. The 5" diameter face of the clock is absolutely incredible. It's protected behind a hinged Beveled glass circular panel that is trimmed with a beaded designed Brass metal edging. Circling the face is a embossed Golden frame that is designed with a bubbling arched pattern. The dial was created from a pure fired White Porcelain and designed in a protruding rounded style. The numbers are done in a Black Arabic script. The center of the dial is background in Silver metal and displays the "Open escapement" of the movement. This escapement still has it's original Ruby stone pallets (Rare) and moves back and forth on a golden gear as the clock runs. The hands are decorative and held in the center with a metal pin. The back of the case has another lovely designed Metal access door that is covered on the inside with a cloth material. The movement is of the finest quality made in the 19th century. It's a 8 day , key wind (comes with key) and operated by a Brass metal pendulum. This clock was made by the highly noted French clock maker Samuel Marti and is marked as follows " MEDAILLE DE BRONZE S. MARTI & CIE" ( Bronze Medal of honor winner in the 19th century French exposition for design and quality of this clock). The clock runs excellent and strikes a Double chime on every quarter hour (Rare) . Once on the first quarter , twice on the half hour , three times on the 3/4 hour and the amount of times for the time of day. This is Double chime with the quarter hour strike is very rare and would make this clock , besides the beauty , a very collectible piece. The overall condition is exceptional with only a chip out of a edge on the Burgundy Marble. This is not that noticeable and doesn't distract from the beauty and value of this rare clock. I will keep my price low for some lucky person and remember this auction is for only 5 days , so place your bids early. Buyer to pay shipping costs. Money order or cashiers check for payment. Thanks for viewing and please check my other auctions for more of the antique clocks from the estate .
