No Reserve. A magnificent antique circa 1850's carved elephant ivory Chinese Canton chess set . The red side represents the Chinese while the white side represents the English. The largest figure stands 5 1/2" tall while the smallest figures, the pawns, stand 2 1/2" tall. The pieces are wonderfully hand carved in intricate detail each being a work of art in and of itself with the bases being openwork captured balls (balls within balls and loose so they rattle around which was carved with special tools by the artisans). The set is not complete as shown and t are losses and some breaks as well as some old glued repairs as typical for these rare and early sets. A wonderful genuine antique chess set which is completely fresh to the market and worthy of some restoration work.
