This is a stunning piece of the finest hand painted quality, from the either the Coalport or Spode factories at Staffordshire, during the Rococo revival period, and features a cobalt blue ground body, with two amazing panels on each side. The large vignettes measure 5" diameter, and on one side is a landscape painting of an Abbey or Castle, and on the other side is of top quality floral sprays in a multitude of colours, encompassed in gold gilt scrolls and lemon coloured leaves. The rest of the pitcher has mould raised leafy scrolls all outlined in heavy gold gilt. The underside of the spout is a giant white leaf with gold gilt branches and berries. The measurements are 8 3/4" high to top of handle, and 7 1/2" handle to spout, and comes in fabulous condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs, so obviously been a show piece for many a year!. Although unmarked, as they were, the V&A museum has confirmed a date of around C1826 which matches the pattern number of 4205 for Spode, but could also be Coalport. You normally only see these sort after pieces in museums or reference books, but this is your chance to own such a prestigious work of art, from a quality period. Check out my other items !
