African Tribal Art Pair Of Luba Figures Congo Size: approx. 18 and 20" high (46, 56cm) Material: wood Condition: extensive white ant damage Age: early 20th Century Pair of Luba Figures Congo These magnificent Hemba figures, a male singiti figure and a female caryatid stool, came from the same village and are the work of the same carver, dating to around 70 years ago. The bases of both figures were extensively damaged by white ants. They have been treated and mounted on custom display stands.Despite the damage, the figures both retain a massive sense of dignity, power and solidity that is characteristic of the best Luba art. Representing illustrious ancestors, they show us a noble vision of humanity, an ideal to look up to.
