Presenting,for the first time ever, an exemplary portrait of the pre-eminent Qajar royalFATH ALI SHAH. This pristine example, unlike the epic life-size examples made to immortalize the shah in foreign royal courts, was made to introduce the Shah to his Persian subjects. The Shah stands up-right which gives him a majestic countenance and a cartouche on the upper right-hand corner identifies FATH ALI SHAH. The work is attributed to Muhammad Hasan and his followers (brush analysis detects the brush strokes of the master only on the facial region of the portrait); nonetheless this painting is a highly prized piece of Persian art history.
