Welcome and thank you for visiting Sweet Home Chicago Antiques!
We are pleased to offer this large, ornate brides basket stand which was manufactured circa 1890 by E. G. Webster & Son of Brooklyn, New York. This stand is just stunning. The silverplating has been restored at some time during its life, so you will only find minuscule wear. The display is both elegant and beautiful. The condition is excellent. It's possible that one or both handles were re-attached; if so, then it was done by a professional. It's very difficult to ascertain. T are little points on the four fans which adorn the tops of the handles. Some of these little points are missing, and I have included closeup photos for you to see. T are no large dents, dings or scratches to mar your presentation. T is so much going on with this design, that I'd like to let the photographs provide much of the description. We do have an antique monogram on this stand. It's a very light engraving, and could be removed if you really desired it to be gone. From what we can determine, it appears to be either the letter "K" or "R". It's quite fancy, and actually very pretty, though the placement gave me fits trying to photograph it. The stepped pedestal riser includes a flat rolled band of roses and fans. The feet give the appearance of clover leaves, and are just superb. Overall this stand spans an impressive 12.00 inches. That measurement is from center bar to center bar between the handles. The height is about 9.00 inches. As you can see in the photos, the well is conical in shape. The outside diameter (across the top) is about 4-1/8". The upper inside wall is about 3". The stand is appropriately stamped, "E. G. Webster & Bro., NY, Quadruple Plate, Hard White Metal". E. G. Webster & Bro. evolved from the Webster Mfg. Co. (1859-1873). The name was used from 1873-1886, after which the concern was re-named E. G. Webster & Son. If you have a treasured Victorian brides bowl, this stand would make a perfect partner for a majestic centerpiece set, and it is being offered at No Reserve.
