Report Of the Maine Commissioners On The MONUMENT ERECTED AT SALISBURY, N. C. 1908. Thirty two pages, hard bound volume dedicated to the 203 Maine Civil War soldiers who died on the Confederate operated prison at Salisbury, North Carolina. This scarce 1908 publication records the creation of the commission, the various oratory presentations at the dedication, a roster by regiment of the Maine men interred at the prison an illustration (birds eye view) of the prison pen as it was in 1864 and two photographic views of the monument. The first view shows the large monument as in stood complete and ready for shipment on the banks of the Kennebeck adjacent to the Hollowell, Maine Granite Works. The second photo shows the same monument in place, with the dedication party gathered round on the grounds of the National Cemetery in Salisbury. This copy does have some staining on the cover as you can see in our illustration but remains solid with a tight binding and no rips tears or folds. This was a complimentary copy given by ,(Pvt. 18th then 1st Maine Heavy Artillery),Thomas B. Libby Commission Executive Council to Sgt. Walter G. Lessard, Co. E 2nd Inf. Maine Guards, May 2, 1910. A quite rare book with something extra given that it is a Commissioners complimentary copy, this example will fit well in any Civil War POW collection. please note: ALL ITEMS ARE CURRENT & AVAILABLE UNLESS MARKED SOLD!!.
