Majolica Jardinière or flower pot. One side of this little flower pot has a blue flower and the other has a pinkish-red flower, each with a ying yang looking center. The bottom is numbered (589/6-A) and signed "Italy" w/ the artist's initial. There are a few minor chips around the rim of this delicate little jardinière. There are also three small pits in the glaze on the inside from the stand it sat on in the kiln. All adding to the character it has earned over the years. I keep reading listings of items being called "Majolica" yet they say they're made in France or somewhere else other than Italy. According to Websters dictionary "Majolica" is "Italian glazed pottery" and this Is! Then the term "Jardinière" apparently is also mis-used some as well. Again, according to Websters dictionary "Jardinière" is "an ornamental pot or stand for flowers or plants". And this little beauty is an amazingly delicate flower pot considering the type of clay it is made from.
