This is a Majolica parrot/cockatoo pitcher from the 1800's. It is an heirloom. It was willed to me (Oldest son) by my mother who passed away last year (2006). She was 76 years old when she passed. This pitcher was willed to her years ago from her Aunt. Bernice, who received it from my mother's Great Grandma and Grandpa. It has been an heirloom in the family from the beginning. I am including the letter that was written to my mother by her Aunt and Uncle who sent her this pitcher that was willed to her. is what was written in the letter. "Ruth and Claire- Thank you so much for showing Aunt Bernice your love, and your letters, etc., every kindness shown her, was much appreciated. It was in Aunt Bernice's "Will" that the parrot jug or vase, would be given to you, Ruth. it was an heirloom from the Fisher family (Great Grandma and Grandpa). We miss Aunt Bernice very much. We were fortunate to llive very close to her for 2 years. We saw her quite often on our days off, or talked to her on the phone. We don't know why the Lord took her so suddenly, but we know she's not suffering any more. Rom. 8:28. Lots of Love, Aunt Nettie and Uncle Ray." I don't know the exact age but I know it is from the 1800's and is very valuable. We are heartbroken that we have to part with it but our financial situation requires that we do so. As you can see in the photos the pitcher is in excellent conditon. Beautiful colors. No cracks, repairs or any kind of defects. It looks as if it was bought yesterday. It was well taken care of over the years. The inside of the pitcher is completely covered with a beautiful pinkish glaze. I could find no markings on the bottom but I know it is an original Majolica. It is just over 9 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches deep from spout to top of handle and almost 4 1/2 inches wide in the middle. T is no reserve. Thank you for your interest .
