French majolica suspension for plants circa 1900-1915. This lovely faience pottery shade was meant to be hung from a ceiling hook to hold a decorative plant. The shade has a beautiful deeply raised motif of grape leaves with the rich green glaze that is a hallmark of majolica. The glaze has a subtle iridescence from age. One large chip on the upper side of the finial on the bottom of the shade, not visible from the floor; several tiny chips on the shade points, none are more than half a centimeter in diameter; one age hairline crack on the interior bowl, not visible from the glazed outside. Original hanging chain and hook.
Dimensions: 13.75 inches diameter ( 35 centimeters) , bowl is 7 inches deep ( 18 centimeters deep) ;overall depth of chain and bowl approximately 23 inches (58.5 centimeters) (can be adjusted by wiring the links up to the central hook.)
