Beautiful old Majolica terracotta pottery vase that appears to depict Jack and the Beanstalk. It stands about 11 1/2". The boy has managed to climb about halfway up the "stalk". The width of the vase is about 6" from the side of the vase to the tip of the boys hat. The details are wonderful of the face and clothing--red jacket, striped pants and yellow hat--European style attire. Photos do not do this piece justice-- I believe it to be very old. Looks Italian? The is some chipping of the glaze on the rim and the boy's hat and below the mouth of the base, and possibly where he is clutching the branch. I don't believe it is marked, but there is a small x which may or may not have been added later. He is standing on a root and wearing stockings. Just a wonderful piece! Shipping is $10 in the US. I don't know where this vase was made, but the fairly tale originated in England in the early 1800's.
