Original Meiji Woodblock circa 1900- A unique, original woodblock print from the Meiji era by artist Toshikata Mizuno. These small prints were released as part of a large print series depicting various aspects of Japanese life, culture, and tradition. Some of the prints depict traditional scenes and stories. Others depict the modernization of Japan with beauties in Western dress displaying an affinity for Western styles. Stories, characters from folklore, and scenes of daily life were all popular themes for Toshikata in this series. These prints are generally more boldly colored with some embossed detail and mica accents -- very nice. The design style of these prints is distinctly Meiji era with a recognizable Meiji period printing technique. They are great prints for display or to add to a collection, a nice opportunity to purchase an original, inexpensive Japanese woodblock. Look for some of our favorite scenes among these clearance offerings. Scenes of Fuji , characters from folklore, a beautiful Ronin print, t are several outstanding examples. Bid now! Artist- Toshikata Mizuno (student of Yoshitoshi) Condition- With beautiful original color and detail, as shown. No holes, tears, or stains to report. The print is not backed. Somewhat soiled on surface, not serious, as shown (see photo). With spotting on print surface as shown (again, see photo). With a number sticker applied at the upper left corner, as shown (see photo). This was the original Toshikata numbering protocol for the series. Generally good and a nice opportunity to collect or display.
