This specimen measures 3 1/4" x 1 3/4" Wide x 3/16" Thick. It is polished on both sides, a cross-slice of multiple sps of gorgeously banded light and dark green MALACHITE. 2 photos of each side are shown below. Congo, Zaire, Africa MALACHITE Chemical Composition: Cu2CO3(OH)2, Hydrous Copper Carbonate Hardness: 3.5-4 Crystal Habit: Monoclinic. Usually massive as crusts which are often botryoidal or mammillary. Crystals usually acicular or prismatic. Stalactitic. Commonly twinned. Color: Bright green to dark or blackish-green. Lustre: Vitreous to adamantine to silky. Translucent to opaque. Streak: Pale Green Fracture : Sub-conchoidal, splintery. Crystals brittle, massive material tough. Often Associated with: Azurite and other secondary copper minerals, limonite and chalcopyrite.
