As in previous joint SAPOA issues, the version from Malawi has turned out to be by far the hardest to obtain for the 2010 SAPOA issue ‘ FIFA World Cup South Africa’. It is listed by many dealers as ‘not issued’ and is still missing in most collections. I am therefore proud to offer the Malawi mini-sheet in very fine mint never hinged (no hidden faults). Unlike the mini-sheets from the countries, the Malawi version is printed on beige background (i.e. no gold foil).

Malawi has earned a bit a of a bad reputation among stamp collectors over the past decade or so: An agency based in New York is churning out ‘beautiful’ stamps on behalf of Malawi that are featuring Princess Diana, steam locomotives or classic automobiles, and some ebay sellers have started simply printing their own cat / dog / Elvis etc. stamps with Malawi’s name on them. In other words, there are plenty of Malawi 'stamps' that are chiefly aimed at collectors BUT which is not the real thing!.

However, there are still some stamp issues that are meant for genuine postal use – and are not distributed through the normal philatelic channels, making them very hard to obtain. A good example are these listed issues which was officially issued by the Malawi Postal Corporation.

The 2007 Butterflies issue that has so far remained elusive. The normally well-informed MICHEL catalogue has so far only obtained two values (and only in used!) and is calling on collectors to help them find further values.

The 2007 issue is easy to distinguish from the earlier 2002 butterflies series if you pay attention to the small slogan “Protect nature” on the bottom right of each stamp which were added to the 2007 issue and with additional values added.
