Travel back in time with this rare 1978 Mammy cookie jar. Standing about 10" tall and 8" in diameter on the bottom, it is in great condition with no chips or cracks to speak of. It is not one of the common Mammy cookie jars and will be a fabulous addition to your collection. As marked on the bottom, it was made in Japan by Mann in 1978. According to Wikipedia: "A mammy is a Southern United States archetype for a black woman who, often enslaved, worked for a white family nursing the families children. The word 'mammy' is a variant on the word 'mother'." The use of the term "mammy" is not meant disrespectfully, but only in its historical context. Please feel free to ask any questions.
