Mamod Steam Locomotive SL1 circa 1983 Be aware that this locomotive is not original and is suitable for spares or repair - a list of modifications as follows:- Shirley meth spirit burner fitted. (photo 5) Wood dumb buffers fitted. Nameplates "lady joyce" fitted to side tanks. Upgraded higher pressure mamod safety valve. Scratch-built firebox cover. Cheddar head plate added. Background:-Much loved model, a veteran of many sixteen mm garden railway steam ups of the mid 1980's. Has been retired and has sat on the mantelpiece for the last 20 odd years.The modifications made to the engine enhanced the performance so it could cope with pulling four mamod coaches. The upgraded spirit burner was more efficient and powerful than the original solid fuel burner. (not available); the safety valve is from an earlier mamod stationary model fitted with a stronger spring increasing pressure to the cylinders, increasing pulling power.The dumb buffer improves coupling and uncoupling duties and the engine could be used to push wagons as well as pull increasing usability.The locomotive dates from 1983? and has the following features fitted to the mamod SL1 of its time:- Pot boiler fitted with site glass, safety valve and working whistle.
