The Maneki Neko literally " Beckoning Cat "; as well as, Welcoming Cat , Lucky Cat , Money Cat , or Fortune Cat . Sometimes incorrectly labeled Chinese Lucky Cat ) is a common Japanese sculpture, made of ceramic , which is believed to bring good luck to the owner. The sculpture depicts a cat (traditionally a Japanese Bobtail ) beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed at the entrance, in shops, restaurants, and other businesses. In the design of the sculptures, a raised left paw supposedly attracts money, while a raised right paw protects it. This lovely bank measures approx. 6" by 5 1/2". Colors and detail are exceptional.
