Manhattan Cutlery BOWIE KNIFE US Civil War original EXC Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album Album • This is a very good Manhattan Cutlery Civil War era Bowie knife with thick 7 1/2” clipped point blade and overall length of 11 5/8”. • Ricasso stamped “MANHATTAN CUTLERY COMPY / SHEFFIELD as seen in the close up photos. • The blade shows only old, light sharpening and light honest use and absolutely no abuse. The sharpening was done a very long time ago as the patina is the same throughout the blade. The patina is undisturbed and not buffed, cleaned, scrubbed, etc. The steel shows only very light typical pitting and no abuse. No nicks and no point damage. The steel has not been buffed or cleaned and is nice and mellow. • The coin silver guard is heavy and thick and is the type and size of the bolster / guard that is indicative of a Civil War era knife. • Hilt with beautiful, mellow stag grip panels held to the tang by four pins. • This type of knife was imported by the thousands from the various English makers before, during and after the Civil War and to both sides during the Civil War.
