This can came out of a dry attic above a tavern in a small town in Iowa 30 years ago. Only this one Old Gold was in the find, most of the rest being more common flats from early 1930s. Can was made by Manhattan Brewing of Chicago, and the OI cans made by Manhattan Brewing are very desirable but very tough. As you can see, this was an inside can, not a dumper, but it did get some humidity spotting over the years in the attic (probably from summer humidity that affects even dry attics). I should mention there is a small crease horizontally across the O in Old Gold. It is not easy to notice it, such as in photo 1, but in photo 5 I deliberately put the can in bright light so it could be seen. The 5th photo deliberately magnifies the crease and makes it look much worse than it is. Note that unless you plan to display the can with a klieg light on it, it will display like photo 1 but be aware a small crease is there.I THINK this can in this condition is very tough, maybe even rare. If you look at page 107 of United States Beer Cans put out by Beer Can Collectors of America BCCA it looks to me most like the third can from the right in the top row, but with the difference being that this one being offered for sale is much better grade than the grade 3 - 4 that must have been best one then located to photo for the book. The third can from left is more a maroon color than with light on it, rather than the darker brown color of the other two shown.
The above is what I think >> I am not an expert on cans and do not have access to the recently published Supplement United States Beer Cans with Opening Instructions by Kevin Lilek (BCCA # 28017) whom I remember and am sure his coverage is excellent, thorough and the best available on OI cans. Feel welcome to ask if any questions before bidding. I also had photos of the back seam and the top lid and bottom lid but could not get them to load tonight and did not want to delay. They are not all shiny but are solid and just surface stuff, no deep rust. I will try to add pics later but if I can't just email me if lids and seam are any concern. I have put a reserve on the can between 2 and 3 bills because I have not offered a can this tough before. Good luck bidding. NO INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS. I SHIP ONLY TO LOWER 48 USA. Shipping, delivery confirmation and insurance are all included in the shipping charge. If actual cost is more than a buck under my guess I will refund balance on shipping.
